After a few months of development and research, the Volume Up Root Lotion & nbsp; was born! During the design phase of this product, we were looking for the right mix of ingredients, for the perfect balance: we wanted to create a light spray, suitable for use on fine hair without weighing it down . An undertaking that is far from obvious, since thin hair is generally the one that most requires the action of volumizing products, but at the same time it is those that tend to get dirty more quickly . The result of our numerous experiments is the Roots Volumizing Lotion, a product capable of adding volume in seconds, giving the effect of a naturally full hair, without leaving residues.

A fast-drying formula with a water consistency, delivered by a spray precision that allows a localized application, concentrating the product on the roots. • It is advisable to start with slightly damp hair and freshly washed. 
• Let’s divide the hair into sections, helping us with clips. 
• We dispense the product by approaching the root of the hair, the goal is to apply the lotion only in the area closest to the scalp, to concentrate the volume effect only where we want it. 
• After distributing the lotion, do a quick finger massage to spread it evenly over the roots. 
• Proceed with the usual styling.

The first ingredient in the INCI of melted products is not water, but vegetable glycerine. This ingredient has a humectant and conditioning action on the skin and hair due to its ability to attract water. Colour for ageing hair

“In terms of colour, I would always suggest a shade or two lighter if you want to take away the years. Most women will suit a lighter shade as they mature. Extremely dark hair and block colour can be too harsh on older skin tones and much more ageing. I’d recommend multi-tonal colour with highlights around the face which can help blend the greys to create a much softer look rather and take years off in an instant.”

The perfect cut

“When it comes to the haircut and styling; aim for a softer more textured cut which can lift the face and create body to give a more youthful look.  There is a common misconception that mature clients should always opt for a shorter hair, but I believe it’s about feeling confident and attractive and if that means having long hair then don’t opt for a chop!”

Having your hair coloured is such a wonderful treat, you leave the salon confident, fresh and with a beaming smile! But, what about the days, weeks, months after? Not many consider the maintenance needed to keep that salon fresh colour vibrant and full of life.  It’s no surprise that many of us mention at our next salon visit that our colour faded after just a few washes. Here’s what we could be doing wrong at home and how to prolong hair colour…

How Hair Colour Works

AVOID HEAT WHERE POSSIBLE

Colour and heat are not friends! Coloured hair tends to be dryer than natural hair, and more prone to damage; adding heat makes it even more fragile and susceptible to colour fading. Heat drains colour molecules from the hair as it opens up the cuticles. It’s hard to avoid completely, but we suggest lowering heat settings on styling equipment and in the shower! A cool to cold rinse after washing hair closes the cuticle to prolong hair colour.

CHOOSE PRODUCTS WITH UV AND HEAT PROTECTION

Hair colour, and hair health deteriorates due to heat and UV; as we discussed above. Protect your hair, and prolong hair colour using simple styling products such as Insight’s Heat Defence Spray for heated styling and Protective Hair Spray for UV exposure. Both protect from aggressors and nourish hair at the same time!

USE COLOR PROLONGING MASKS

Coloured hair needs more TLC than non coloured. A natural colour extending mask can make the world of difference to prolong hair colour. HEALTH IS WEALTH

We’ve looked at external aggressors like heat and environmental factors wreaking havoc on our colour, but what about internal aggressors? Our health plays a large part of our hair journey, coloured or not. Vitamins are essential for healthy hair that holds colour and bursts with life. Eating a balanced diet rich in iron, zinc, B Vitamins, vitamin C and D will stand you in good stead for healthy hair that prolongs colour.

We’re bombarded everyday with adverts about products and their promises, but do they really stack up? Let’s take a look at colour saving haircare and whether it’s worth straying from our everyday shampoo.

What is colour saving haircare?

Colour saving haircare is specifically formulated to keep coloured hair from dulling and fading, whilst preserving and nourishing hair that may have been compromised in the colouring process. Our coloured hair range is designed in just this way, it prolongs and protects colour, adds shine, nourishes deeply, and leaves hair healthier than ever. This is possible due to milder, and scientifically chosen ingredients that have colour enriching properties, and cuticle filling molecules.

Extracts in our Coloured Hair Range include:

Organic Macadamia Oil : Nourishing, Protective.

Color Protection Complex (Henna Extract, Mango Butter, Grape Seed Oil).

Can you use colour saving haircare on non-coloured hair?

Absolutely! But, then again why would you want to? It’s always a good idea to choose products based on your own hair needs. If your hair is frizzy for instance, use an anti-frizz shampoo, and the same goes for dry hair, damaged hair , blonde hair, and so on. If you do find yourself, perhaps in a friends shower with no other options, colour saving haircare will do no harm to your non-coloured hair. In fact, it will be greatly nourishing and replenishing .

Can you use regular shampoo on coloured hair?

Let’s take a look at things the other way round. If everybody in the world used Insight professional haircare, there would be less colour fading, and lots of happier people with coloured hair around! Our shampoos and conditioners are formulated SLS and SLES free; these are prime strippers of hair colour in other brands. If you want to find out more about SLS and SLES, click here. Standard shampoos from a drugstore or your local supermarket will strip your colour fast and furiously. So, if using non colour specific products on coloured hair make sure you chose products as natural as possible, without harsh ingredients. If you happen to be in a situation where this is unavoidable, get a colour saving mask on your hair as soon as you can.

What ingredients should I avoid when I have coloured hair?

As mentioned above, SLS and SLES are the most common colour stripping ingredients, they’re referred to as sulphates or surfactants. Along with diminished colour, you’ll find these also strip your hair of shine and life. Let’s look at the science; for longevity of colour, hair cuticles must remain closed. Sulphates, such as sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl ether sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, and sodium lauryl sulfate, disrupt the cuticles, opening them up, and allowing colour molecules to escape. Essentially, your colour can be stripped in as little as 3/4 washes when using products with these ingredients.

How long will colouring saving haircare extend my colour?

A tricky question to answer due to so many factors. If you are using Insight’s coloured hair range, we predict your colour will last 2 times longer (double) than it does with your current routine. We cannot say in weeks or months due to the unknowns of your hair washing habits, such as frequency and temperature.

When choosing the right products with the ingredients to effectively make a difference, YES, colour saving haircare can make a world of difference for your colour. However, there may be many things you are doing dat to day that contribute to your hair colour fading despite using the best possible  haircare.
